A Little Nashville History: Vanderbilt’s Peabody College for Teachers

How many times have you driven past Vanderbilt? Well here’s what you might not know about Vanderbilt’s Peabody College for Teachers…

This location was home to the largest Baptist school for African Americans, Roger Williams University. After refusing to be sold to developing Vanderbilt University, key buildings were destroyed by a fire. The school closed and the land was sold, becoming what is now Vanderbilt’s Peabody College for Teachers.
