Who doesn’t love a good turn up but have you ever partied for a purpose? We sat down with some of the Tennessee State University alum who decided to bring their organizations together to help raise money for the university while throwing one of the hottest party during this year’s TSU Homecoming – We Are One happening Friday, October 13 on TSU’s campus.

We chatted with Tarria McNeal, Stacey Thomas, Jerry Roach and Stacey Summers, alums behind One Party One Purpose. An initiative started over 10 years ago to help increase alumni giving to the university through one thing everyone can get behind, a great party. The iniative started with bringing together several of the Divine Nine sororities and fraternities to throw the ultimate party during homecoming and give all proceeds to the university.

We first tossed this idea in 2012 to celebrate TSU’s 100 year anniversary. I thought it would be great to host an event where we could get together and reunite in one space. – Jerry Roach, One Party One Purpose

What started out as One Party One Purpose is turning into a historical event that will bring together even more organizations to host one ultimate party this year on the campus, which has never been done before. We Are One, was the vision of Tarria McNeal and Debbie Howard, the team behind Alumni United.

We are really looking forward to the unity this year as normally all the organizations have separate parties. We Are One is providing a totally different model that will give all proceeds back to the university instead of going back to each affinity chapter. – Stacey Summers, One Party One Purpose

This new venture bringing the We Are One party, includes several HBCU organizations coming together for one time to do something extraordinary for the university: Beta Omicron Alumni Association, Epsilon Alpha Alumnae of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., One Party One Purpose One TSU, TSU Young Alumni Network, Roaring Loud, The Forthcoming TSUNAA Royal Heritage Affinity Chapter, The Vine Legacy, The Zeta Alpha Alumni Association Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

It is really an important time to unite as TSU alum right now. We authentically root for TSU always, it is innate. We know TSU alumni love to get together, be in tight spots and fellowship so we are meeting people where they are and giving back to the university at the same time. – Stacey Thomas, One Party One Purpose

Alumni United and the We Are One party are poised to take ownership of the future of the alma mater they love so much and help in increasing alumni giving. The group is also doing this at such a pivotal time with the latest news of the 2 billion + the State of TN currently owes to the university.

You are not just buying a ticket to a homecoming party, you are making a donation into the future of TSU and our young people. We want to all be a part of a winning team. – Tarria McNeal, TSU Director of Annual and Alumni Giving
