Purpose Prep provides an academically challenging, disciplined, and joyful elementary school to the children of Nashville. Through rigorous curriculum, high-quality instruction, and positive character development, Purpose Preparatory Academy Charter School ensures that all kindergarten through grade four students achieve the academic skills, knowledge, and ethical foundation to be set on the path to college.
Purpose Prep is set to celebrate 10 years with a gala and fundraiser that is taking place at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel Ballroom on April 22. The event, “A Decade of Purpose,” will celebrate the achievements of the charter school over the past 10 years, as well as honor the community that helped build Purpose Prep’s legacy of excellence.
Purpose Prep’s Impact
Over the past decade, Purpose Prep has become one of the top elementary schools in the city, including being designated a “Level 5” school—the highest district recognition—for growth and achievement for English Language Arts (ELA) and for growth for math.
Based on the results of TNReady and TVAAS testing for the 2021-2022 school year, Purpose Prep leads all 157 schools in the district for growth in reading and math. Purpose Prep also is the No. 1 elementary school serving economically disadvantaged students in the Nashville Metro Public Schools in ELA and math and the No. 1 and No. 2 elementary school serving African American students for both ELA and math, respectively.
“I’m proud that Purpose Prep has become a beacon for academic excellence in Nashville,” said Lagra Newman, founder and head of school, Purpose Preparatory Academy. “We couldn’t have done it without our community, and we’re excited to come together at ‘A Decade of Purpose’ to honor the many people who helped us impact so many scholars these past 10 years and put them on a path to college and success beyond.”
The fundraising gala will honor these achievements, among others with an awards ceremony recognizing community and staff members who have helped Purpose Prep achieve its mission over the past 10 years. Guests also will enjoy cocktails, a seated dinner and live entertainment. Including NFL Player Jalen Ramsey, cornerback of the Miami Dolphins and Purpose Prep donor. “I support Purpose Prep because the school provides every child the opportunity to receive an excellent education, including children in my hometown who don’t always have that opportunity. I believe in the school’s mission and am proud of its work to put children on the path to a successful future.”
