Title: CEO of Inspired Athletes
What brought you to Nashville? Tennessee State University to pursue college and sports
Tell us what you are creating in Nashville? As the CEO of Inspired Athletes, I created a basketball skills development platform focused on helping young players maximize their potential. The organization has positively impacted more than 650 athletes across the Middle Tennessee area, demonstrating the scale of Barfield’s commitment to youth development.
My approach goes beyond improving shooting, ball handling, conditioning, and other technical aspects of basketball. Through Inspired Athletes, I emphasize confidence, discipline, accountability, perseverance, and personal growth. Basketball serves as both a sport and a vehicle for preparing young people for challenges beyond the court.
I currently serve as the Physical Education/Sports Coordinator at Nashville International Academy, focused on developing a strong and sustainable sports program. The combination of education and athletics gives me a distinct perspective. I understand that coaches are also teachers—and that some of the most important lessons taught through sports have little to do with winning a game.
What inspires you? Inspiring the next generation of athletes and leaving a legacy in honor of my grandmother, who passed away on May 30, 2023.
