How many years have you been in Nashville?
14 years. I originally moved to Nashville in 2002 to attend Vanderbilt University. After graduating, I moved to Durham, NC to attend Duke University School of Law then worked in New York City for 3 years. My husband, Alandis, and I moved back to Nashville in 2012. It was a completely different place by then!
Tell us what you are creating in Nashville?
As a young professional, I am contributing to the ever-expanding culture of education, influence and wealth within the black community here in Nashville. For many years, our demographic has been overlooked and underestimated. Now the time has come that our accomplishments and contributions to this city and its economy are undeniable, irrefutable, and in many ways unmatched. I’m thrilled to have a proverbial “seat at the table” and to continue to champion and advocate for the people and organizations most important to me.
What inspires you?
I am always inspired by the relentless perseverance of women in business, both here in Nashville and all the way to my Nike colleagues in Portland, Oregon! Through Lady Lunch Club, I have interacted with thousands of professional women. These ladies make things happen for themselves and their families every single day. So many face silent battles and challenges, yet seem to rise to the occasion despite the situation. We are wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts… But we are also founders, executives, and leaders! As Beyonce once said, “we’re strong enough to bear the children – then get back to business.”
Coffee, lunch, brunch, or happy hour?
Definitely brunch! Pre-Covid, Lady Lunch Club events were hosted in-person at some of Nashville’s best brunch locations. Great food, drinks and ambience are a must!
