Listening sessions are becoming a new way to experience music offline/streaming and foster community at the same time. Jonathan McReynolds did just that, bringing an intimate listening session to Nashville for his new album – Closer ( Live in Chicago). It also solidifies why Nashville has always been a haven for artists to come, create, and share the work they have created. His album is definitely a needed respite as we all navigate an unknown season in this country while continuing to draw closer to a very real God.
Held in the BMI Lobby in the heart of Music Row, popular gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds brought attendees inside the why behind his latest album, inspired by the 80’s sound and steeped in faith throughout. The event sampled 9 songs from his latest album, with moments of Jonathan explaining the meaning behind each of the songs. He also premiered a look into his music video for Closer, a collaboration with Tasha Cobbs Leonard.

It was refreshing to hear his faith on display and the method for how he continues to stretch himself as an artist. As Jonathan shared, “I don’t think you would get the best out of me without the stretching.” He continues, “With this album it was about, the closer I get to ‘God’ the more I feel I need to live right.”
The conversation was moderated by BMI executive, Catherine Brewton, where Jonathan shared from an introspective space about his new album, and his faith walk as a believer. What began in his college dorm room in front of a few friends has grown into a career on Christian music’s biggest stages. The first stage of course being in Chicago, where he was born and raised on the South Side. This album goes back to his beginnings, recorded live in Chicago at Greenwood Oasis, Jonathan delves deep into his own spiritual intimacy with God and just how good HE really is.
