We had a chance to sit down with Stacey Thomas, founder of La Leyenda Mezcal and owner of Staceywines.com to learn more about how she got into the spirit industry along with sharing two women in spirits she loves, Twisted Sistuhs Wine and Timeless Vodka. Plus, three cocktail recipes you can try at home.
Stacey Thomas, importer and part-owner of La Leyenda Mezcal, began her beverage journey marketing and selling Italian wine. She quickly fell in love with the business and began brokering wine, spirits, and sake’ from multiple portfolios. Her long-lasting relationships with wholesalers and distributors became a skill set that was high in demand.
A few years ago, she met Alejandro Sanchez, founder of La Leyenda Mezcal, through mutual friends. The story of Alejandro’s legendary mother and how La Leyenda would be a tribute to her; reminded Stacey of her business savvy and hard-working grandmother, Viola Miller. She is a legendary businesswoman who made her mark in the male-dominated trucking industry.
After only a few conversations they decided to go into business together and as they say, the rest is LEGENDARY. Stacey’s message and mission are to fuel the legend within and inspire everyone to live their best lives, with purpose.

- 1 ounce and a half of La Leyenda Mezcal
- 3/4 Habanero Hibiscus Syrup
- 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
- 1 ounce lime
- Shake and pour over ice

- 1 ounce and a half of Timeless Vodka
- 3/4 Blackberry Liqueur
- 1/3 honey liqueur
- 1/2 ounce ginger syrup
- Shake and pour over ice
Ogechi Anyatonwu and Kristi Alderson
Twisted Sistuhs is a Nashville-based black, woman and veteran-owned wine company, started by Ogechi Anyatonwu and Kristi Alderson. It is a high-quality vegan wine aged in bourbon barrels. The women were recently selected by the Black Influencers of Libations Association (BILA) as a 2021 Award Winner.
The Twisted Sistuh’s Recipe: Blacker The Berry
- 1 ounce Twisted Sistuhs Barrel Blend Wine
- 1 ounce La Leyenda Mezcal
- 3/4 ounce lime juice
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- Top with splash of Twisted Sistuhs Barrel Blend Wine
- Add crushed ice if desired
