The Frist Art Museum is an exciting hub of Nashville’s artistic and cultural, presenting the finest visual art from all over the world, including local and regional artists. As a non-collecting institution with new exhibitions opening every six to eight weeks, there is always something new to see and experience. Depending on when you visit, you could see anything from antiquities to contemporary sculpture—painting and photography to design and fashion.
Throughout the year, the Frist offers a wide variety of programming, including lectures, performances, music, and family activities. On the Upper Level, the Frist has several studio classrooms and Martin ArtQuest, which is a wonderful interactive creative space with approximately 20 art-making stations, where guests can create their own works of art!
And don’t miss the Frist Gift Shop—one of the best places in Nashville to take care of all your shopping needs! Whether you’re looking for gifts for kids, something inspired for your art-loving friends, or something special for yourself, you’ll find an eclectic array of goods.
If you get hungry, be sure to stop by the Café Cheeserie for a quick snack, beverage, or full meal. Savor a fromage-focused, bistro-inspired menu featuring fresh salads, handcrafted baguette sandwiches, and scratch-made soups as well as a full coffee bar.
The Frist occupies Nashville’s former main post office which is an impressive and beloved work of art itself. A celebrated example of Art Deco and Stripped Classicism architectural styles from the 1930s, the city’s treasured structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
Admission for guests ages 18 and younger is always free. Visit FristArtMuseum.org for more information on current exhibitions and events.
