Why is Zach lovin’ Nashville right now?
I grew up here, so I participated in many service organizations. As I got older, I kind of leaned into that service and leadership mentality. Through my job, I connected with the Nashville Chamber Black Chamber of Commerce. My experiences with them have been so rewarding because I have discovered so many avenues for black businesses to get the support they need. We have an unmovable presence in Nashville, and as the city has evolved, black businesses and culture have evolved with it. There is no Nashville without our stories, and we continue to help the city grow with HBCU and other businesses.
I really like eating at Kitchen Notes in the Omni Hotel. They have the best breakfast buffet! If Kitchen Notes is packed, I love the brunch at Saint Anejo in The Gulch. They have an amazing brunch. You might not want to drink heavy in the morning, but the tequila flights at Saint Anejo are really nice. They specialize in really authentic tequila. The breakfast tacos are also really good.
Being in this business space, I’ve been able to learn how powerful networking is. I like to hang out at the Downtown Nashville Library. They always have some really awesome and extravagant presentations and programs happening there almost everyday of the week. I also love being at the Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce. It’s the pinnacle when it comes to resources in the city. I’ve learned so much from partnering with the Chamber in terms of helping others and representing myself in business settings. It really feels like a family when I’m there because everyone is so willing to help one another. However, if it’s a Saturday or Sunday and I’m not working, I might get a midday mimosa at Hopsmith Tavern.
I love scenes that showcase local artists and musicians like The Backcorner in Germantown. I do my best to support their shows because I’m a believer in the rising Nashville R&B and hip hop scene. For good food, you have to try Rocky’s Wing Shack! That’s my spot. I found out about it 5 years ago from someone who posted a picture of their plate on Instagram, and I had to have it. It’s really the place to go for good wings and the best sauces. They will mix the sauces for you too. You have to try the Strawberry Kick and Cajun sauce mix on your wings!
Kung Fu Saloon is a cool spot. It’s across the street from Two Boots Pizza, and it’s open until 3am. The DJ is always good, and you can play all types of cool games like giant jenga and ping pong. They have retro video games on the inside too. Also, I recently took a ministerial role at a church in Franklin, TN, but I used to attend Schrader Lane Church of Christ. It’s one of the best places for people who want to learn about Christ and worship with others. Everyone feels loved and supported in that congregation.
