24 Hours In Nashville: From A Local With Style

Due to COVID-19, please make sure to social distance, wear a mask and check directly with each establishment for current operating status as updates are made frequently. We are updating as we receive details.

Malaka is a Nashville attorney and fashion blogger at Scales of Style.

Why Malaka is lovin’ Nashville right now:

I moved to Nashville four years ago not knowing much about the city other than country music and that my sister lived here. It was actually my third choice behind D.C. and Chicago. Little did I know that Nashville was on the rise, cost of living included, but also in terms of attracting people and businesses from all over adding more diversity to Music City. Discovering Nashville has been fun, and honestly the city has exceeded my expectations.

My ideal morning is Saturday. I’m not in a rush to get anywhere, but I make efficient use of my time by delegating some of the items on my to-do list. One thing I delegate consistently is washing my car, and Saturday mornings are perfect for it. I use Magnificent Auto Detail (a mobile detailing company). The only thing I have to do is unlock my car and shortly after my car is clean inside and out. So, even though I spent my morning relaxing or working on other things, I feel even more accomplished.

Sticking with Saturday, my ideal afternoon is spent exploring the city. I love neighborhoods that are walkable. I like street art and murals. I like popping in and out of stores. As a blogger, I also like capturing my explorations through photography. Christy Hunter, owner of Authentic Photos and Designs, is a photographer I’ve worked with here in Nashville. She recently began hosting Airbnb photo experience tours in the Gulch. It’s a neat way to get professional photos in front of some of your favorite Nashville murals and other cool spots in the area. I’ve been fond of the Gulch since moving here. So, if you’ve ever wanted to capture your random explorations or take pictures in front of your favorite murals, this would be a great way to do it. It’s something you can do solo or with family and friends, and it’s reasonably priced.

Evenings I’m always game for happy hour after work. One of my favorite spots is Del Friscos Grille. They have food and drink specials, the service is always good, and the ambiance is nice.

Late Night

Late night for me is also pretty chill. If I’m not at home, I prefer a bar/lounge environment, or something laid back but artsy. A nice bar/lounge in Nashville with an artsy vibe is Gray and Dudley. It’s located inside 21c Museum Hotel so you get the best of both worlds. Have a drink at one of the high tops, lounge on the sofas, tour the artwork throughout the museum, or make a pitstop outside the restroom and watch your photos turn into temporary digital art. There’s also the option to just enjoy the ambiance and chill.
