24 Hours in Nashville: A Local’s Sunday

Joy Sutton is an entrepreneur, talk show host, journalist, former news anchor, and public relations expert.

Morning

On a Sunday morning, I’m always ready to get my praise on. I can’t think of a better way to start the week. The word of God gets me focused, recharged and ready to take on the world. As I head to Olive Branch Church in Nashville, I turn on 92Q for Joy In The Morning. On Sundays the station has some of the best gospel music to get me ready for service. I absolutely love Olive Branch because the praise and worship always brings me into the presence of the Lord. Not to mention, Pastor Vincent Windrow is one of the most engaging and insightful pastors around. He has a way of breaking down the word of God that makes it applicable to your daily life. I leave church with so many golden nuggets and excited about the week ahead.

Afternoon

After church, I head over to Donelson Massage Center. I recently found this hidden gem. The prices are very reasonable and their massage therapists are among the best. I love that they are open every day until 10 p.m. Plus, your standard massage comes with hot towels to take your relaxation to the next level.
Of course, the pampering must continue. After my massage, I head over to the Nail Bar in Cool Springs. From the outside, you would never expect that you’re walking into such a posh and chic environment.¬† I love the black walls, crystal chandeliers and purple pops of color throughout.¬† As a former television health reporter, who’s covered stories of people getting MRSA, a staph infection, sanitary practices are of the utmost importance to me at a nail salon. They sanitize the instruments and even use a brand new nail file and buffer on each client. And my pedicures last for three to four weeks! I’ve heard a few celebrities go here too. You never know who may be sitting next to you for your next pedi.
Evening
By this time I’m starving! The buffet at Monells has me salivating. I’m a sucker for southern fried chicken and fluffy, melt- in-your-mouth biscuits. You can never go wrong with all you can eat.
Bonus

And finally, I round out my night with a comedy show at Zanies Comedy Night Club. This quaint and cozy dive allows you to get up-close-and-personal with some of the most popular comedians in the industry. Just make sure you get there early, because sometimes the line can be wrapped around the building.

What a day! I leave this day relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for all that God has ahead for this week.
