Sweater weather is almost here and we caught up with Kimberly Adams, founder of Slim Pickings Boutique, to dish on the trends she thinks every woman should know for this season. As a fashionista and entrepreneur in the city, Kimberly is constantly in the midst of what’s hot and shows up with a look in every room she steps into. Take notes and see what trends you plan to check out this fall, which officially starts on September 22.

Kimberly shares her why for starting Slim Pickings Boutique:

I grew up around fashion — my mother was a supervisor at a women’s clothing manufacturing company for years, so fashion was always in my bloodline, even before I understood it as a passion of my own. After graduating with a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising from Ball State University, I actually went the corporate route for a while. In 2019, Slim Pickings was dropped in my spirit, and it became my way of re-emerging back into the world of fashion, on my own terms.

When I opened the store, I didn’t just want it to be about the clothing — I wanted to build in styling services too, so women weren’t just buying a piece, they were learning how to actually wear it. Beyond that, I’ve always had a passion for giving women clothing that makes them feel beautiful, inside and out. I wanted timeless, interchangeable pieces that could move with a busy schedule, and a brand that helps women embrace the beauty that already lives within them.

Running a fashion-forward business in Nashville:

What I’ve enjoyed most is being able to connect with women of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds — Nashville has this incredible mix of people, and fashion becomes the common language between them. I’ve also loved partnering with local news to showcase fashion trends, and curating pop-up shops and fashion experiences where women can connect in person and shop the collection face-to-face. It’s given the brand a real presence in the community, not just online.

Kimberly’s Fall 2026 Trends:

Honestly, I don’t necessarily subscribe to chasing every trend — I’m more about statement pieces that are timeless and good quality. That said, this fall I am loving warmer tones — terracotta, cocoa, deep eggplant, marigold — over the usual black-on-black.

But if you ask me what every woman actually needs in her closet, it’s simple:
  • A good pair of jeans
  • A good coat
  • A few tops you can mix and match,
  • A sexy black dress
  • A power suit.

Get those five right, and you’re dressed for anything — trend or no trend.
